Janolus sp.. (undescribed)

Christiane has captured what appears to be another undescribed species of Janolus. Spectacular. I cannot decide whether it is a variation of Janolus sp. 7 in Indo-Pacific Nudibranchs, or of Janolus sp. 2. Maybe something in between, which would make sp 2 and sp 7 just extreme variations of the same species.

The caruncle and rhinophores are particularly clear showing the detail of the many fleshy sensory folds on each. Having this degree of folding increases the surface area significantly, enhancing the sensory ability.

Also apparent are dense branching of the digestive system, a feature absent in some species.

Great catch Christiane!
