Bornella sp., Undescribed

Two things came to mind when Jim Black first sent in the above image in behalf of Jeff Guzman. (1) What a super image and where have I seen the subject before?, and (2) Where is the heck are the Perhentian Islands? The first question was answered in part by leafing through Neville Coleman's new book Nudibranch Encyclopedia . And behold, there is was on page 126 with two pictures, one from the same area and another from Thailand.

Jeff was able to take the above image with an amazing depth of field. Pretty incredible shot! Boy, how what I love to get some HD video of this guy! Bornellas are one of my favorite subjects!

As it turns out, the Perhentian Islands lie off the east coast of Malaysia. How one gets there I'm not sure, but will perhaps find out one of these days in hopes of photographing this undescribed branch!

Thanks Jeff for sharing your wonderful image with Slug Site readers!

Jeff Guzman on location

I'm a 38-year old technical diver, I was certified as a NAUI open water diver in 1986. My first venture into underwater photography was with a Canon S80, back in May 2006. 6 Months later I upgraded to a Canon 400d, DSLR. Some of my photos have appeared in Australasia Scuba Diver, PADI Project Aware Website, PADI Newsletters, Metro Active Magazine, Newsweek and 3 Canon Photo of the Month. Recently I was chosen as the Featured Photographer at Scubadivng.com for the month of Feb 2008.

I just got a Nikon D300 with 105mm macro with VR. No housing as of yet still looking for a buyer for my liver and kidney's.
